Robin Phillips is a trial lawyer with almost 20 years of litigation experience.  He has tried over 30 jury trials and negotiated settlements in hundreds of cases.

  

Phillips litigates intellectual property matters as well as complex, high-stakes commercial cases.  

Phillips began his career as a patent litigator at the international firm of McDermott Will & Emery (Am Law 100).  He then practiced at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch (Am Law 200), broadening his scope to include other areas of intellectual property and complex business disputes, while maintaining a significant focus on patent litigation.  Phillips has represented companies of all sizes, including Fortune 500 companies, and has litigated primarily against Am Law 100 firms.  

Prior to founding Phillips Lex, he served as a Deputy District Attorney for 5 years at the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, where he was in court every day trying cases as lead counsel, questioning witnesses, arguing motions and negotiating settlements.

Phillips has argued before the Ninth Circuit and the Federal Circuit Courts of Appeals, and has briefed the US Supreme Court.

In addition to his law degree, Phillips holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science.

Javo Beverage Company, Inc. v. Javy Coffee Company et al. (Delaware, Federal Court): Representing Javo in trademark case.

VirnetX Inc. v. Microsoft Corp. (Texas, Federal Court): Represented VirnetX in patent case against Microsoft, in which Microsoft was found to infringe patents concerning virtual private networks.

Data Network Storage Corp., v. Dell Inc. et al. (Federal Circuit): Represented Data Network Storage on appeal in patent case alleging infringement of patent concerning the transfer and storage of data in computer networks.

Lambda Optical Solutions, LLC, v. Alcatel-Lucent USA Inc. et al. (Delaware, Federal Court): Represented Lambda Optical Solutions in patent case alleging infringement of patent­­ concerning fiber-optic switches in computer networks.

Realtime Data LLC v. Blue Coat Systems Inc. et al. (Texas, Federal Court): Represented Blue Coat Systems in patent case alleging infringement of patents concerning data compression.

Orci v. Smith (California, State Court): Represented movie producer in breach of contract and fraud case.

CP Manufacturing, Inc. v. Sewell (California, Federal Court): Represented CP Manufacturing in patent case alleging infringement of patent concerning discs used in machines at recycling plants.

May S. Hasso-Serrano Family Trust et al. v. Rockwater American Municipal Fund et al. (California, State Court): Represented hedge fund in breach of contract and fraud case.
